About Wordle
A Wordle analyzer filters possible answers based on your feedback (green, yellow, gray) and ranks the best next guesses using entropy and information gain algorithms. It helps you solve Wordle in fewer guesses by making data-driven suggestions. Our Wordle Analyzer provides real-time analysis with AI-powered recommendations.
Based on entropy analysis, the best starting words are CRANE, SLATE, TRACE, CRATE, and RAISE. These contain the most common English 5-letter word letters (E, A, R, S, T) and maximize information gain. See our complete Top 50 Starting Words ranking for detailed metrics.
There are approximately 2,309 possible Wordle solution words. Additionally, about 10,000+ words are accepted as valid guesses but will never be the daily answer. Our Statistics page breaks down these words by letter frequency, starting letters, and more.
In Hard Mode, Wordle enforces extra constraints: green letters must stay in their exact position, yellow letters must appear in subsequent guesses, and gray letters should not be reused. This makes solving more challenging because you can't use "throwaway" guesses. Our Hard Mode Solver is specifically designed for this mode.
How Wordle Solvers Work
Wordle solvers calculate entropy for each possible guess, measuring how much each word would reduce remaining possibilities on average. The best guess maximizes expected information gain across all 243 possible color patterns (3^5). Our solver also factors in letter frequency, position analysis, and whether a word is a possible solution.
Entropy (measured in bits) represents the expected information gained from a guess. A guess with high entropy will create the most even distribution of possible outcomes, meaning it eliminates the most candidates regardless of what the answer is. A perfect first guess has about 5-6 bits of entropy. Learn more in our Strategy Guide.
Information gain measures how much a guess reduces uncertainty. If you have 100 remaining words and a guess narrows it to 10, that's significant information gain. Our analyzer calculates this for every possible guess and ranks them accordingly. The Letter Frequency Tool helps visualize which letters provide the most information.
That depends on your perspective! Many players use solvers as learning tools to understand optimal strategies. You can use a solver after solving (or failing) to see what the optimal play would have been. Our Practice Tool lets you play unlimited games, so you can train your skills for the daily puzzle.
